The John McMullan Cup

This year we are holding the inaugural John McMullan Cup competition for best honey in the show. The cup will be a perpetual cup kept for one year with the winner's name engraved, and a prize of €100.

Objective: The objective is to improve the quality of honey in the Association through exhibiting in a formal manner. The cup and prize will be presented to the best honey exhibit. It is confined to members of the Fingal North Dublin Beekeeping Association.

 The following rules will apply:

  1. The honey must be the exhibitor’s own honey.
  2. Entries must not be labelled or have any identifying marks. Each exhibit will be entered in a register and a unique number allocated and attached.
  3. Two jars of honey in 227g, 340g, 454g glass jars, with lids ideally plain gold (but decorated gold also allowed).
  4. Jars should be washed, rinsed and polished before filling with honey.
  5. Jars should be filled to the 'fill line' (no gaps seen between top of the honey and the lid).
  6. Honey should be free of air bubbles, debris and granulation. Naturally crystallised honey surface should be set and dry.

N.B. Judging will be governed by the standards used in the Irish National Honey Show. The judges’ decision is final.
